Burns Treatment in EMC
Burn injuries present one of the most severe forms of trauma with its unique clinical, psychological and social challenges that can be handled only by highly specialized treatment and care plans.
Caused mostly by accidents at home or workplace, these injuries normally come under trauma burns such as flame, scald, electrical or chemical aetiologies, including inhalation injuries.
The burn intensive care unit (BICU) at EMC, was started in the year 2006 as a premier centre for burn management and care in Kochi.
Over the years we have achieved and maintained an excellent and proven record of being the best available facility in the region to handle comprehensive burn treatment and rehabilitation plans for patients suffering from such injuries.

Our Facilities
The BICU with 6 beds is located in a highly sterile and less crowded area of the hospital to ensure that infection control, a vital component in burn management, is given top priority.
Treatment rooms are equipped with telemetry systems, hydrotherapy units and high environmental controls for burn patients. Special beds reduce pressure on patient’s wound and assist in faster healing.
Our multi-disciplinary team of specialists with experience in burn management carry out the initial assessment and plan of care to reduce the risk of any life-threatening condition that may be present.
Burn treatment plans also focus on early fluid resuscitation, specialized wound dressing on a regular basis and timely access to other surgical or therapeutic facilities, including dialysis.
