Paediatric surgeries

Paediatric surgery is a subspecialty of general surgery, focused on the treatment of infants, children, and adolescents. Therefore, if your child has an illness or complaint that requires surgery, the service of a paediatric surgeon is essential. Unlike adults, children cannot always say what is bothering them nor can often provide reliable answers to medical questions. It is also difficult to medically examine an infant or a child as they tend to be restive and probably nonco-operative during the process. A paediatric surgeon, using specialized equipment and facilities specially designed for children can provide the best care for your child.

The Paediatric Surgery team at Ernakulam Medical center, comprising of highly qualified paediatric surgeons and paediatric urologists, with decades of experience, efficiently manage all forms of complicated neonatal/paediatric surgical cases. Working in tandem with one of the best referral Neonatal & Paediatric tertiary care centre in the region, the unit provides an unmatched paediatric surgical treatment for your child.

Some of the common paediatric surgeries carried out in the hospital include:

Congenital malformations

Also known as birth defects, these are problems that happen while the baby is still in the womb. There are many types of congenital malformations, some of which are mild and easily curable, while some others can be life threatening. They can affect the normal working of the body organs like heart, lungs, brain or parts such a as a face, hands or feet. Therefore it is critical that any such conditions are diagnosed by an experienced consultant at an early stage and corrective action taken. Some of the commonly found congenital malformations include:

        • Ano-rectal malformations
        • Biliary atresia
        • Choledochal cyst
