Hepatitis B is a virus that infects the liver, spreading through contact with the blood or body fluids of the infected person. Hepatitis B can be of two types namely:

• Acute hepatitis B – most adults who get it, have it for a short time and then get better.
• Chronic hepatitis B – a long term infection that can damage your liver. Babies and young children infected with the virus are more likely to get chronic hepatitis B.

The common symptoms for hepatitis B can be the following:

• Feeling very tired.
• Mild fever and headache
• Loss of appetite
• Stomach upset, pain or vomitting
• Dark coloured urine.
• Symptoms of jaundice (yellowish colour of eyes and skin) usually appear later
