Dr.Harikumar R Nair is a Gastrointestinal physician with over two decades of experience caring for patients with a wide range of digestive disorders- functional, inflammatory and neoplastic bowel disorders, pancreatic and liver diseases . His area of interest is liver care (Hepatology).
He has performed more than twenty thousand diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures with special interest in ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography) done for post liver transplant biliary complications.
He has served as faculty at tertiary care teaching hospitals in India and abroad-JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education &Research), Puduchery as Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, AIMS (Amrita Institute of Medical sciences), Kerala as Associate professor and consultant Transplant Hepatologist, Gleneagles Global health city, Chennai and has served the National health services, UK as Consultant Hepatologist at Queen Alexandra hospital, Portsmouth.
With extensive training globally in Hepatology and Liver Transplant Medicine, Dr. Nair has worked in Liver units of prestigious institutions in India and abroad. He has undergone training in Portal Hypertension as senior clinical fellow in Hepatology with hepatic hemodynamics as focus at INSELSPITAL, the university hospital of Bern, Switzerland. This training tenure centred round management of advanced /end stage liver disease with portal hypertension (increased liver pressure) with exposure on procedures done in this patient population namely, Hepatic venous pressure gradient measurement (HVPG), TransJugular liver biopsies(TJLB) and Transjugular intrahepatic portosytemic shunt(TIPS) placement.
Underwent Transplant Hepatology Training at the Multi organ transplant Unit, University Health Network, Toronto, Canada, where he gained experience in all aspects of medical management of chronic liver disease in liver transplant setting- Pre liver transplant evaluation & post transplant follow up. Dr.Nair has spent an additional month of training in Transplant Peri Operative Care at PENN transplant Institute, Philadelphia, USA.
